It is hot, hot, hot in Washington DC, but it's still an excellent time to visit. Many folks are out of town on vacation, so you'll have lots more elbow room!
If you're in the DMV, travel on over to the Logan Hardware August Summer Market on Saturday, August 13, and Sunday, August 14, from 12-5pm. Artists and designers will be there featuring great gifts. Logan Hardware, an Ace Hardware DC store, is located at 1734 14th Street NW.
Liz Hutcheson of Fast Snail Creative Greetings & Design will be on hand Saturday and Sunday, offering cards and gifts illustrating her unique Washington DC perspective.
Liz writes of her Lincoln Love Wedding Card, "The inscription on Mary Todd Lincoln's wedding ring read, 'A.L. to Mary, Nov. 4, 1842. Love is eternal.' This sentiment inspired Liz's image of a Lincoln Memorial aglow with glorious color and with hearts blooming along its front steps."
Be sure to say Hi to JC Smith of the Bailiwick Clothing Company, and check out his awesome DC-themed t-shirts, tanks, and caps. He'll be at the Market on Saturday and Sunday.
Paola Bernacchi of Palo Borracho will showcase DC designs and beautiful floral illustrations on Saturday. Her giftware ranges from baby bibs and art prints to DC wine glasses, beer mugs, and more.
Need a wedding gift? Anjali Sunderam of Sovereign Treasures is bringing beautiful new hand-painted tabletop pieces on Saturday, as well as her colorful henna-inspired (my fav!) dinnerware and trivets.
Hurray for yummy sweets! Ruby Scoops is a local and online retailer of premium small batch ice creams, sorbets, sherbets, and desserts, all handcrafted and scratch made in Union Kitchen by Chef & Owner, Rabia Kamara. You can get your ice cream fix at the Market on Sunday.
Allison White, Co-Founder of the Scout Cart, is new to the Logan Hardware Market; she will be on hand Sunday to demonstrate how much easier your city (and suburban) shopping can be with this fabulous, high-quality personal shopping cart!
There will be lots to see, so perhaps you'll be able to stop by both days. Again, the Logan Hardware August Market will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 13-14 at Logan Hardware, 1734 14th Street NW, Washington DC, from 12-5pm. Hope to see you there!
Two new art prints -- a photograph and a photocollage -- are now available!
I had so much fun finding this heart -- thanks to our dusty Honda, we pulled up to the car wash at just the right moment to capture it.
It's always fun to reimagine the DC Flag, this time in wood.
You can find the entire Art Print collection here. Stay tuned, more art prints are on the way!
I'm happy to announce the opening of my new Artist Shop on threadless.com -- yippee! I'm excited because you'll now be able to purchase my designs on t-shirts, tank tops, and children's clothing like this DC Flag baby onesie.
Stay tuned -- I'll keep you posted as I add more designs, and more products, to my shop!
If you're visiting the metro Washington DC area (aka the #DMV), it's worth a half-day trip to the National Geographic Museum, museum shop, and especially the outdoor Courtyard Market. The Courtyard Market is held every third Tuesday, 11am-2pm, from April through October. NatGeo is located at 1600 M St NW in Washington, D.C.
Marcelle Fozard brings her awesome Design Your Own Succulent Bar!
A lovely finished product!
Liz Hutcheson of Fast Snail Creative Greetings & Design features lovely DC-themed art prints, flasks, tea towels, greeting cards, and more great gifts.
Anjali Sunderam of Sovereign Treasures creates beautiful henna-inspired designs, and summery trivets.
There are even more artists and designers to visit!
... and more!
Sometimes food trucks show up, too.
... and Sang on Wheels.
NatGeo also has a pretty tasty cafeteria.
You can visit the next Courtyard Market on Tuesday, August 16th. Have fun!
I love arranging the photos I take on my morning journeys just about as much as I enjoy cutting out handmade papers for collages. Here's a little bit of what I do.
First, I take lots of pictures that may or may not find their way to Instagram or Facebook; if they don't, they are still helpful when I'm composing an image.
Next, I dig into my photo stash, just as I do with my paper stash, and pull out my go-to pics for creating more background texture. I love using pictures of clouds!
I then use the awesome filters in Photoshop to finish the process.
I'll create this piece in various forms, beginning with an art print and a greeting card. It's so much fun!
I hope you've enjoyed reading about a little bit of my process. Please email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you'd like to learn more.
You love these artists so much - so we're doing it all over again! Stop by the Logan Hardware July Summer Market to visit Palo Borracho, Elizabeth Hutcheson, Sovereign Treasures, and Bailiwick Clothing Company July 9, 12-5, 1734 14th St NW at Logan Hardware!
Also featured are fellow designers Patricia Rex and Stephanie Laird. Each of us has traveled our own personal path to the world of greeting cards, and we've enjoyed creating, sharing, and selling our art to you. We'll keep it up!

If you're in the Washington DC area this Saturday, be sure to visit the Logan Hardware Father's Day Market, held on June 4 from 12-5pm at 1734 14th Street NW. You'll find great cards to send and awesome gifts to give from Fast Snail Design and Bailiwick Clothing Company, two local design companies.
Bailiwick Clothing is "dedicated to DC," and boldly displays that pride on its apparel. DC dads are gonna love these -- great job, JC Smith and Bailiwick Clothing Company!
You'll also find Washington DC celebrated in Father's Day cards created by Liz Hutcheson of Fast Snail Design.
If you can't make it this Saturday, Logan Hardware (part of Ace Hardware DC) will host another Father's Day Market on June 18. We hope to see you there soon!
I enjoy going for morning walks, taking photos, and putting them on cards for you to enjoy, dear friends.
But not all of my photos turn out to be beautiful -- they might be blurry, or just not all that interesting.
I'm so happy, though, that I can still use them. Right now I'm excited about creating photocollage cards by combining many layers of photos I've taken with pieces of existing collages I've made.
There are new birthday cards:
Thank you cards:
Come take a look at all of my new cards in the NEW! Collection. Thanks!
